Last evening in Miami

After a day on the beach, including, in my case, a delicious grouper sandwich (Pam had shrimp tacos), we opted for small plates on the hotel's terrace.  Our waitress, Aurora, offered to take our picture.  She was a lot better at it than yesterday evening's waitress.

Some wine for Pam and a virgin mojito for me launched a pleasant dinner, inclusive of people and traffic passing by on Collins Avenue. It concluded with a complimentary dessert from the hotel, Aurora having picked up on a passing comment about yesterday's wedding anniversary.

Well fed, we went for a short walk, then headed back to the room for the night. I took this picture along the way.  The apparent serenity was actual when I took it, but it belies the activity that passes along it during the day.

The Kimpton Surfcomber is a good hotel for us on this trip. I would guardedly recommend it. It has a definite South Beach persona. The rooms are small, uninteresting, and pricy. Its guests span a broad demographic. The staff is friendly, with a few rough edges, particularly in housekeeping. Access to the beach is easy. The beach services the hotel provides are good, but it is essential to bear in mind that the entire beach is public.  This is a reminder, not a warning.

More broadly, this is our second visit to South Beach in the last six years. It seems unlikely that we will stay in this part of Miami again.
